After seeing the new “Rough” paint that Gamesworkshop is hawking, I thought….. “There must be other options”.
You can get brush on paints with sand mixed in that provides a textured finish but spray paint which is good enough for miniatures is a little different. Walking through Wal-Mart the other day (My wife made me go… honest), I saw some Stone Creations paint from Rust-Oleum.
I bought the darkest one (N7991Black Granite) knowing that it would only act as the base coat. I’d have to put a coating of straight black spray over it.
I collected a bunch of Ruins from Fantascene. I felt that some of them were too smooth anyway for ruins. These would be my test pieces.
I got them ready then stone coated them. Once dry, I black coated them. I’m actually quite pleased with the results and have taken shots of the whole process. I’ll be posting them with a complete write up after I write up my Blacksmith Shop How-to.
Stay Tuned 🙂
